2015 Iron Butt Rally PREMIER MEMBER Registration

The 2015 Iron Butt Rally will take off June 29, 2015, from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Once again, it will be a challenge not only to your riding skills but also your ability to map a successful route in order to maximize points and solve the time/distance equation. In no particular order, the checkpoints will be in the west, the east and finish back in Albuquerque. Exact locations, dates and times will be announced at a later date. Please note: the rally will start and finish at the same location.
As it has been since 2005, there will be a minimum number of points required in order to qualify as a finisher. In other words, it is possible that you will ride for 11 days, not obtain enough points and NOT qualify as a finisher. Important: There will not be the opportunity to be a checkpoint-to-checkpoint rider. If this finds you shaking in your boots remember the Iron Butt Rally is for the World's Toughest Riders.
Positions are extremely limited and, unfortunately, not everyone who seeks to enter the rally will be able to find a spot. We wish we could accommodate more applicants but, unfortunately, we have limited facilities and staff to conduct the rally. The entry fee for the 2015 Iron Butt Rally will be $1,975 ($2350 two-up) (U.S. Funds) payable in two parts. If you are drawn for the rally (information on how to enter the drawing follows) to hold your position the initial deposit of $850 due February 15, 2014; and the remaining $1025 ($1400 two-up) fee due February 1st, 2015.
Due to the number of people who were drawn and offered a spot and then did not take it, there will once again be a $100 application fee payable via PayPal payment engine at the ironbuttrecords web site. However, if you are NOT drawn, this $100 fee will be REFUNDED in full. If you are drawn and secure a place on the start line, your $100 will be applied to your entrance fee. Please note: If you decide NOT to accept the position, the application fee is NOT refundable.

Important: All PREMIER MEMBER entries MUST be entered at www.ironbuttrecords.com no later than January 31, 2014. On or about February 1st, 2014, a drawing will be held for available positions from entries received before the deadline. With the exception of several positions to be used at the Rallymasters' discretion (for example, interesting antique motorcycle attempts) everyone must pass through the drawing. If you have won a no-draw position at another rally, you will still need to enter your information online as well as make the application fee in order for us to know you plan to exercise your option to participate.

Your application is not complete until you have completed the process in Paypal. Two up teams need apply only once. Please note that, just like the rally, reading comprehension counts while filling out your application so take care to submit a complete application. Please do also mention if you plan to ride in the Hopeless Class and on what motorcycle. IMPORTANT: there are two limitations you should be familiar with: In the two entry fields, LD Riding Resume has a 2,000 character limit and Hopeless Class Proposal 1,000 character. Every year a few riders will submit extremely detailed applications that exceed those limits, which means we do not see what might be your most important information. While the system will tell you have submitted a description too long, at this time it does not tell you how far over you have gone. So if you are planning to submit a very long resume, please compose it in a word processor, use the word/character count version and save it so you can cut and paste it in to the application.
Due to the high volume of applicants, it is not feasible to maintain a wait list. In the event that a position becomes available, we will again draw from the remaining entries. As long as you provide a current e-mail address and can accept email without blocking, everyone who applies will receive a letter notifying you whether entry was drawn or not.
If you are drawn for the rally, you have until February 15, 2014, to get your initial deposit to the Iron Butt Rally offices. After that date, you have forfeited your position. Please note: the $850 fee to reserve a position on the starting line is NOT refundable. Under no circumstance should you submit your fee if you are not certain that you will be able to ride. This policy has been in effect since 1988 when so many last-minute rider cancellations resulted in the cancellation of the rally itself.
If you are unsure what you might encounter during the rally, you should immediately obtain a DVD copy of Hard Miles 2, the definitive documentary of the Iron Butt Rally http://www.apgvideo.com/ironbuttrally/ If you are unfamiliar with the mechanics of the rally, Ron Ayres' book, Against the Wind, is an excellent account of Ron's Iron Butt experience. Every applicant should also visit the Iron Butt Association's web site at www.ironbuttrally.com and read the reports from the 2013, 2011, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2003, 2001, 1999, 1997 and 1995 rallies. You can expect there will be minor revisions to the rules for 2015.
You should be aware that the rally may have bonuses in Canada. Due to the tragic events of September 11, 2001, exit and entry from the United States has become a hassle for some people and there is no guarantee that you will be able to cross the border without incident. Such is the risk of attempting a bonus that takes you across an international border.
There will be no bonuses located in Mexico and while we will attempt to ensure there is no short cut across Mexico, it may be remotely possible for some odd combination of bonuses to utilize a route across northern Mexico. Even if that happens, it is hard to imagine any time savings crossing the border into and out of Mexico.
You should also be aware that while the primary goal of the rally is to reach the checkpoints and arrive on time, collecting some bonus points may require an extraordinary effort and bravery. Earning bonus points can require long hikes (for example, a one-mile steep uphill hike to an ice cave) or participation in other extreme activities. For example, in 1999, bonus points could be earned by riding an open air roller coaster located on top of and on the outside of a 100-story tall building and in 2005 some riders who arrived at the very extreme time limit on a bonus had to wade across a waist deep Pacific Ocean inlet to reach a bonus at a lighthouse.
If all this talk about drawings, rules and regulations sound like we are not a fun group, I assure you the Iron Butt is about friendship, loyalty, trust and most of all, having a great time. The rules and guidelines we have developed over the years are to keep the playing field level and to keep the event fun. Some of the best memories of my life have been because of the Iron Butt Rally and I assure you that you will ride away from the rally a changed person with new life-long friends and some of the most treasured memories of your life!
